Our Internship Program provides experiential learning opportunities for students. Thanks to the generosity of parents, alums, and members of the greater Manhattan business community, Dwight students have held internships or shadowed professionals in a wide range of work settings.

In order for Dwight’s Internship Program to build on its success, we need the support of the Dwight community, in particular our parents and alums. We are currently looking for businesses willing to offer shadowing and summer internships.

Students intern with a member of the business community, developing new skills in a field of interest for a longer period of time. They work closely with a mentor not only learning the demands of the job but also actively participating in meetings and projects. The duration of an internship varies.

Students shadow a member of the business community for a single day. They meet and spend the day with a professional in a field of their interest, observing the mentor’s daily routine, interactions, and responsibilities.

What do students have to say?

Emma Curry ’15: “Having the opportunity to visit Dr. Elahi was truly empowering. Being able to be present in an operating room is so rare. My favorite part of the day was looking over Dr. Elahi’s shoulder as he held a scalpel in one hand and dissected an eye. I am thankful to Dwight for offering this program because, without their support and opportunities, I would have never been able to observe a surgery.”

Noah Bloem ’13: “The general manager told us about the late nights, long days, and extensive amount of work that goes into running a hotel....But, I learned that if you are able to develop a passion for the job and deal with all the quirks that go along with it, it’s an exciting job that’s fun to do and allows you to meet a lot of people...Now, I’m not sure if I will end up working in the hotel business, but I feel fairly certain that if I do, I will enjoy it immensely, despite all the work that may come along with it.”

Josefine Brekke ’13: “This was an amazing opportunity and a great learning experience. I love theater and performing arts, and I am personally interested in studying arts development or management. This day allowed me to ask questions, look at archives, talk to directors within the development department at Roundabout, sit in on meetings and visit the American Airlines theater and go backstage. The shadowing program helped me a lot, and I want to encourage more students to apply next year. I loved it!”
